Writers sometimes say of their work, “That story (or book, or article) wrote itself.” Meaning that the writing moved along almost as if by magic. That doesn’t discount the work involved, the groping for just the right word or phrase, the need to organize thoughts, sentences, paragraphs and chapters. Nor does it minimize the challenge of bringing the “finished product” to where you want it to be. (There’s always editing to be done, usually several rounds.)

But there are some stories that are just “begging to be written,” stories that engender so much passion in the writer that they seem to flow from the mind, to the fingers, to the keyboard, to the screen. I feel blessed that it’s been that way, by and large, with the stories I’ve written.
